Overview

Tokyo Cop: Special Police Reinforcement is a open-world racing game developed and released by Gaelco for arcades in 2003, with North American and Japanese distribution handled by Namco.

Set in four districts of the Japanese city of Tokyo (Ginza, Hibiya, Shinjuku, and Shibuya), Tokyo Cop has players participating in car chases as they pursue fleeing criminals and attempt to pit them with their car to stop them.

The game uses two types of deluxe sit-down cabinets, one of which detaches the dashboard for more motion feedback. Both versions also keep track of player progress (with a PIN system), allowing players to continue where they left off at a later date.

Vehicles

The game includes three vehicles to choose from, with additional ones unlockable over time. Higher-speed vehicles are locked to specific ranks and may be more difficult to handle.

In addition, vehicles can get damaged with overuse. Having a vehicle with 100% damage makes it unavailable for the next pursuit. All unused vehicles are fully repaired before the next pursuit.

Patrol

  • Rogue Patrol (police van) - Light, with max speed of 120 Km/h. All Ranks
  • Lead Patrol (police cruiser) - Medium, with max speed of 130 Km/h. Patrolman and above.
  • Hidden Patrol (sports car) - Hard, with max speed of 150 Km/h. Sergeant and above.

Confiscated

These vehicles are unavailable from the start. Players can unlock each of them for their profile over time by arresting special International criminals (McDougal for the Kanzenna, Gin Baker for the Silver, and H. Gruber for the Red Hell).

  • Kanzenna (4WD utility vehicle) - Heavy, with max speed of 170 Km/h. Lieutenant and above.
  • Silver (super car) - Hardest, with max speed of 200 Km/h. Captain only.
  • Red Hell () -
